Services for Harvey Benson Van Schoik will be held at 11:00 Friday, April 21, 2017 at Price McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton, with Pastor Gregg King officiating. Burial will follow at Dunkirk Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by Amvets Post 1994. Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 on Thursday, April 20, 2017.
He died at 9:30 pm Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Bridge Hospice in Findlay. He was born on August 17, 1929 in Hancock County to the late Don and Hazel (Benson) Van Schoik. On October 26, 1950 he married Joyce Sams and she survives in Dunkirk. They celebrated 66 years together.
Also surviving are a son, Tim (Samantha Naug) Van Schoik of Apex, NC; a daughter Lynn Dee (Van Schoik) Schank of Findlay; 3 grandchildren, Joshua Van Schoik of TX; Katherine (Van Schoik) Renaud of Chicago, IL; and Sarah (Don) Burdette of Freemont, CA; 3 great grandchildren, Ashton Van Schoik; and Lilah and Trent Burdette. Sisters-in-law, Treva Van Schoik of Kenton; and Rita Waltermire of Findlay; and 5 brothers-in-law, Doyle; David; Duane; Devere, and Dennis Sams of all Kenton.
He was preceded in death by his sister Helen (Paul) Thomson and his brother Harold Van Schoik.
He retired after 28 years from the Dunkirk Post Office. After retiring from the Post Office he was a driver for the Hardin County Veterans Service for 18 years. He also retired from farming.
Harvey was a 1947 graduate of Dunkirk High School and a veteran of the US Army serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Dunkirk where he served as a trustee. He also was a member of the Kenton Elks Lodge #157, Dunkirk VFW Post #3816, American Legion Post #0198 in Kenton, the Korean War Veterans Association #172 in Findlay and the Hardin County Farm Bureau. 
Memorials may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church in Dunkirk or to Bridge Hospice.
