Roger D. Black, age 78, of Kenton, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Vancrest of Ada. He was born on June 27, 1947, in Kenton to the late Ernie and Laura (Davisson) Black.
He is survived by a son, Jess Black of Kenton; a daughter, Holly (Brian) Bays of Kenton; and two grandchildren, Carter Bays and Makenzie (Trent) Miller. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brianna Bays, and a sister, Karen Black.
Roger was a 1965 graduate of Kenton High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam. After his military service, Roger worked for the Shelly Company (formerly Northwood Stone and Asphalt) for 33 years until his retirement.
Roger was an active member of several local organizations, including the Kenton Eagles, Moose, Elks, Shriners, Masons, and the 366 Gunfighters Association. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, gardening, woodworking, and welding. He cherished his dogs and enjoyed having breakfast with his friends at the Eagles.
Military rites for Roger will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the McDonald Township Hall, with burial to follow at Fairview McDonald Cemetery. Friends and family may visit from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Roger's honor may be made to Universal Home Health and Hospice.
