A funeral service with military rites for Rex Earl Canfield will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the McDonald Township Hall with Pastor John Foster officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview McDonald Cemetery.  A meal will be held at the McDonald Township Hall following the service. The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with arrangements.

Rex E. Canfield died on January 4, 2024, at his residence. He was born to the late Emery and Sara (Dubbs) Canfield in Kenton on June 24, 1936, and attended Roundhead school. He married Donna Dawson on June 25, 1961 and she survives along with 2 sons; Charlie of Lakeview, Steve (Kristi) of Sistersville, West Virginia, grandchildren; Trenton Canfield of Pensacola, Florida, Kelly (Kelly) Dickens of Convoy, Ohio, Jamie (Brian) Roberts of Dunkirk, Ohio, Lauren Clark , Ethan Clark, Cole Canfield, Kara Canfield all of Sistersville, West Virginia, great-grandchildren; Averi, Grayson, and Parker Canfield, sister, Helen Tafejian of Olympia, Washington, sister-in-law, Dianne Knipp of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Nephews, Bob and John Tafejian of Olympia, Washington, and special cousin, Charlotte Potter of Bellefontaine, Ohio.

Rex began his career on the family farm, farming with his dad. Rex then enlisted in the US Navy in 1956 where he served 4 years aboard the USS Waldron DD699 where he saw many parts of the world. Rex worked at Alger Feed and Grain for 13 years, overseeing many projects at the elevator, and he always enjoyed the men who worked for him there. Rex started his own welding and fabricating business "Canfield Welding".

Rex enjoyed all the customers that traveled through, with all jobs and projects too many to list. He retired in 2014.

He was a member of USS Waldron DD699 Alumni Association, Kentucky Colonial, lifetime member of the VFW and was also a member of the Mount Zion Methodist Church.

Rex loved planes and flying. He received his private pilot's license in 1976 and he really enjoyed his time in the sky. He had many hobbies in his lifetime. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, model trains, cowboy shows & movies, but his favorite was morning coffees at numerous places throughout the years with lots of friends and great stories.

Memorial donations in Rex's honor may be made to Mt. Zion Methodist Church.
