Funeral services for Mary Carr will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton. Burial will follow at Ridgeway Cemetery. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Mary Josephine Carr, 98, formerly of Rushsylvania, OH, died of natural causes July 8, 2020 at Arbor
Woods Assisted Living, Jackson MI.
Mary was born on January 3, 1922 to the late William and Edna Naus of Kenton. She graduated from
Kenton High School and married (Clarence) Broof Carr in 1940. They were married for 67 years until his
death in 2007. Mary is survived by one sister, Sarah Oates of Kenton; four grandchildren and six great
grandchildren; Elaine (Todd) Parshall and children Brandt and Delaney, Jackson; Mike (Audra) Carr and
children Logan and Breanna, Holt, MI; Ed (Lisa) Carr and daughters Gabby (Jack) and Gillian,
Pickerington, OH; and Wes Carr, Toledo.
In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by many friends, her daughter-in-law; Judy
(Paxton), 2012, and her son Douglas B. Carr, 2017. She was also predeceased by 4 brothers, James, Bill,
Bud, and Melvin, and 2 sisters, Irma and Edna.
Mary played basketball in school and closely followed OSU basketball and football throughout her life.
She sang in the choir at Epworth United Methodist Church in Kenton and taught Sunday School there for
many years. She worked for over 30 years at Westinghouse in Bellefontaine, OH.
Following her husband’s death, Mary was completely mobile at Arbor Woods for several years before a
stroke limited her to a wheelchair. She loved the staff and people at Arbor Woods, actively participating
in activities, conversation, worship, and her hair appointments the rest of her life.
In lieu of sending flowers, donations can be made to the Hardin County Council on Aging, Epworth United Methodist Church or the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church.
