Lois Lautenschlager Obituary

Lois M. Lautenschlager, aged 79, of Kenton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 4th, at 4:00 A.M. in her home, surrounded by loved ones, after courageously facing cancer for 2 years.

She was born to Minor "Bud" P. and Beatrice M. (Wickstrom) Reynolds on February 14th, 1945. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her son Rodd Michael Lautenschlager, and her late husband, Joseph A. Carey. She is survived by her daughter, Shannon (Steve) Coburn and daughter-in-law, Heather (Randy) Oliver. Lois was a devoted grandmother to five grandchildren: Tyson (Darian) Kelly, Raechel (Justin) Noble, Sean (Kaylee) Kelly, Kuert Lautenschlager and Saylor Baum. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Lynda (Leon) Barbee and Sandy (Dana Weaver) Heissler.

Lois married Robert M. Lautenschlager on May 4th, 1974, and he survives in Kenton.

A woman of many talents and passions, Lois embarked on a career as a hairdresser after attending the Ohio State School of Cosmetology. Later, she pursued her passion for education, obtaining her teaching degree from Lima OSU. Lois dedicated her career to Bellefontaine City Schools, where she retired as an esteemed educator. Even after retirement, she continued to impact young minds as a substitute teacher at various local school districts, endearing herself to students who affectionately called her "Mrs. L." or "The Brain Food Lady."

Driven by a thirst for knowledge, Lois graduated Summa Cum Laude from OSU and furthered her education with a master's degree from the same institution. She also obtained a counseling degree from the University of Dayton. Lois took great pride in teaching GED students and was known for her unwavering commitment to their success.

In addition to her professional achievements, Lois was an active member of various clubs and organizations, including the Culture Club, of which she served as president from 2012 to 2014, her Mother’s Club (Tender Loving Care), and the OSU Alumni Club. She was also a faithful member of the First Methodist Church in Kenton, where she participated in the Elizabeth Circle.

Lois will be remembered for her boundless generosity, unwavering dedication to education, and her kind and compassionate spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
