Larry J. Amato 84
of Powell
A Funeral Mass for Larry J. Amato will be held at 11: 00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Delaware. Friends and family may visit 1 hour prior to services at the church. The Price-Mcelroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with arrangements.
Larry passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at The Dublin Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born on March 19, 1940, in Marion, Ohio to the late Giuseppe "Joe" and Lottie (Hildreth) Amato. He married Paula Ohira on January 4, 2015, and she survives in Powell.
Also surviving are his stepdaughters, Karen (Robert Suwinski) Ouderkirk, Jennifer (Richard) Sirgo, sister-in-law, Dottie Amato, grandchildren, Tony (Becky) Amato, Keira Ouderkirk, Kailyn Ouderkirk, his best friend Bill Philpot, and several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Riffee, 3 brothers, Albert, Carmel, Frank Amato, a sister, Virginia Davis and a son-in-law, Kelly Ouderkirk.
Larry graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1958 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962. After his service, he began a long and dedicated career with Conrail Railroad, where he worked for over 30 years before retiring. In his retirement, Larry found joy in collecting Lionel trains, hitting the golf course whenever the weather allowed, watching classic westerns, and making his signature homemade ice cream. He treasured days spent with family, often with a margarita in hand and the ice cream machine whirring in the background.
Memorial donations in Larry's honor may be made to The St. Mary's Catholic Church in Delaware or the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
