Kathryn Newman

Funeral services for Kathryn “Kate” Newman will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Mt. Victory. Burial will follow at Hale Cemetery in Mt. Victory. Family and friends may visit 2 hours prior to the services at the funeral home. 

She passed away April 18, 2025, at Mercy Health Clermont Hospital in Batavia. She was born on March 10, 1937, to Thomas and Louise (Culp) Shoffner. She was one of nine children.

Kate married William “Bill” Newman on October 15, 1955, he preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children; Thomas (Anita) Newman, Mark Newman, and Jolene (Deron) Shinkle, and grandchildren: Aliza (Scott) Cox, Natalie Newman, Karalyn (Tommy) Willard,

Austin Housler, Maddy Newman, Delaney Ratleff, Logan Shinkle, and Liz (Caleb) Smith. 6 great grandkids Noah, Colton, Kaidence, Grayson, Eloise and Thomas and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Loretta (Phil) Richardson, Barb Brown, Mary Wolf, Sally (Gene) Harrold, Joan Manns, brothers, Bob (Dixie) Shoffner, Charlie (Ruth) Shoffner and Tim (Alene) Shoffner.

Kate was a 1955 graduate of Ridgeway High School.

She was a homemaker. She loved to dance and square dance. She was a beautiful seamstress and enjoyed making crafts. She was an exceptional country cook and baker. She was an active member of the Hardin County Homemakers. The Hardin County fair was the highlight of her year, where she often participated in open class exhibits and open class dish days. If she was not in the homemaker building, you would find her sitting on a bench by the grandstand catching up with all her family and friends. She loved watching football, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes. She enjoyed playing any type of card games with her family and friends. In her later years, you would find her reading a good book or doing a challenging puzzle. She was an extremely proud parent and grandmother. She supported all her children in their activities growing up. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved bragging about all their accomplishments to anyone who would listen. If you knew Kate, you definitely knew how much she loved and how proud she was of her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Hardin County Fairground Foundation in Kenton, Ohio.
