Visitation for Jean Hackney will be from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 Friday, March 23, 2018 at Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton. Burial will be at a later date.
She died at 12:59 pm on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at her residence. She was born on May 05, 1945 in Urbana to the late Chester and Icie Eva (Frost) Tomblin. On June 20, 1969 after only knowing him for 30 days she married Larry Hackney and remained married until he preceded her in death on May 02, 2008.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Sherry (Richie) Magann of Kenton and Laura (Howard) Gettings of Kenton; 8 grandchildren, Tavia (Todd) Miller of Kenton, Tiara (Kyle) Anspach of Kenton, Ray Legge of Kenton, Alicia (Jake) Jones of Forest, Stephanie Hastings of Forest, Jenna Hackney of Mt. Victory, Kathrine (Cody) Tuttle of New Carlisle, and Charles Napier Jr of Bucyrus; 9 great grandchildren, Tatum and Taryn Miller, Kylyne and Kole Anspach, Ariel, Carson, and Allie Mae Osborne, Able Tuttle, and Braidyn Van Meter. Also surviving are 3 sisters, June Huber of Thornville, Shirley Slusser of Urbana, and Debbie (Bill) Lefever of Bradenton, FL; and 3 brothers, Doug (Mary) Tomblin of Marysville, Ron (Sharon) Tomblin of Urbana and Jeff Tomblin of Urbana.
She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Hackney, daughter, Shelly Hastings, grandsons, Brandon Castle and Chance Lykins, great grandson, Brysen Van Meter, and 6 brothers, Jim, Richard, Burch, Ernest, Chet, and Michael Tomblin.
She was a waitress at Thomas Family Tavern and a former member of the Kenton Women of the Moose and Amvets Ladies Auxiliary 1994.
Jean loved being around family and cooking for them, especially at holiday gatherings. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee with friends and family.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice in Marion or the American Diabetes Foundation.
