Helen Cavin Obituary

Helen Marie Cavin 96

of Belle Center

No services will be held and burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center. The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with arrangements.

Helen Marie Cavin, 96, passed away on October 30, 2020 at The Campbell Place in Bellefontaine surrounded by her children. She was born October 28, 1924 at the home of her grandparents in the small community of Yelverton in Hardin County to Leonard "Red" and Edna (Schaffner) Lease. She was the eldest of seven children. She attended elementary school in Yelverton, and graduated with the class of 1942 at Belle Center High School.

On December 20, 1945 she married Vincent M. Cavin in Kenton and together had four children.

During the early 1960's she was employed at Hill Drug in Kenton and later worked over 20 years as a pharmacy technician at Hardin Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1988.

In addition to being an excellent homemaker, she had a passion for being outdoors building and caring for her flower gardens. She enjoyed being surrounded by plants and flowers on her patio where she would sit daily and look out over the pond and enjoy the wildlife that would frequently visit. For many years she would pass the time during winter evenings crocheting items to put around the house, as well as making many afghans to give as gifts to family. She was an avid reader and would visit the Belle Center Library on a regular basis to collect a stack of books for a week's reading. She enjoyed watching and attending the Cincinnati Reds baseball games.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Vincent in January 1995, her son Wayne in October 2019, siblings Leonard Lease Jr, Virginia Graves, Josephine Wilson, Robert Lease and Nancy Walters.

She is survived by her children, Judy (Urgelle) Roberts of Belle Center, Bryan (Joanne) Cavin of Rosewood, James (Alice) Cavin of Roanoke Virginia, along with 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, her brother James Lease of Belle Center and many nieces and nephews.

The Family would like to express many thanks to the caregivers and nurses who played a big part in allowing her to stay in her own home as long as she could. A special thanks to the awesome nursing staff, caregivers and facility staff at The Campbell Place in Bellefontaine for the care and compassion given to her over the last 13 months, and especially during an extremely stressful time of no family visits because of Covid -19, and for going above and beyond to comfort the family during her last days. Thank you to Dr. Fulmer and the nurses at Mary Rutan Hospital, along with a special thanks to Angie Rutan CNP for the many years of excellent medical attention provided to her.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the activities fund at Campbell Place or Kindred Hospice.
