of Daytona Beach, Florida
Franklin Dyer, 90 of Daytona Beach, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 2:35 pm at Halifax Hospital, Daytona Beach. He was born on October 15, 1933, in Kenton to the late Anna Oates, and resided in Daytona Beach for 35 years. He married Marlene Shick on April 6, 1957, and they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in April.
He was a welder at Wilco Inc for 17 years then taught welding at Tri Rivers JVS for 10-1/2 years. After moving to Florida, they managed a motel on Daytona Beach for 6 years.
Survived by his wife, Marlene of Daytona Beach, Florida; Daughter and Son in Law, Dina & (Steve) Eaton; Son and Daughter in Law, Darren & (Jill) Dyer; Grand Daughter, Emily & (Derek) Martin; Grandsons, Dustin & Devin Dyer.
He was preceded in death by: Carl Bloom, Anna Oates, Lance VanBuskirk and Veronica Reese Stevens.
He was a lifetime member of the Kenton Elks Lodge #157, served in Korea from 1950 to 1953 in the National Guards, then returned to graduate at Kenton High School in 1955. Retired from the US Army after serving 21 years.
He enjoyed working in the yard with his flowers and making crafts in his workshop.
Funeral Services for Franklin will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Price McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton. The funeral will be officiated by Pastor Mary Curtis. Burial with military rites will follow in Grove Cemetery in Kenton. A funeral dinner will be provided by the Women of the Moose after the services. Friends and family may visit from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Franklin's honor may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
