Doretta "Dori" Wells 72
of Alger
The best damn card player on the south side of the Scioto River.
Dori Wells went home to pick up where she left off aggravating the hell out of her husband Gary. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
She was the heart of her family. Her home was always open, filled with unconditional love and many of her grandchildren were always present. Her home was spotless and it was said that she would take a plate before you were even finished eating.
Dori had a gift for telling it like it was, sometimes before her first pot of coffee. She gave it to you straight with no chaser. Dori held onto her cigarettes with the same determination she held onto her opinions. Her coffee was as strong as her right hook and her sarcasm paired well with an occasional sprinkling of profanity.
She raised her family with extraordinary love and dedication, and they will carry her legacy with them forever.
Dori was born on May 12th, 1953, in Kenton, Ohio to the late Ruth Loney and Bill Wallace.
She married the love of her life Gary Wells on March 25, 1971, and they lived happily together until his passing on September 22, 2014.
Dori was preceded in death by her beloved and only son, Gary Wells Jr. and brothers, Ernie, Danny and Mike.
She is survived by two daughters, Amy Wells and Vicky Spencer (Wells), grandchildren; Shanita (Gilberto) Sigala, Tabby Harp, Sadie Zachariah,
Gary Wells lll, Steven Wells, John Wayne Wells, Justin Wells, Chase and Derrick Newman, Grace Spencer, Jerrika Whitaker, 10 great-grandchildren, partner Kramer and sister, Francine Moore.
