Dennis Alexander Obituary

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 11, 2026, at the Grove Cemetery Committal Building with Pastor Michael Schnieder officiating. The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Dennis passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 21, 1947, in Kenton to the late Bernard and Helen (Durr) Alexander. On October 18, 2008, he married Ruth Petitt, who survives in Kenton.

Also surviving are his daughter, Cheryl Grover of Waynesfield; three sons, Arthur Petitt of Kenton, Thomas (Johanna) Petitt of Kenton, and Douglas (Paige) Johnson of Wapakoneta; two sisters, DeDe Cramer of Findlay and Doris Amstutz of Cypress, Texas; a brother, John (Jacqueline) Alexander of Kenton; 19 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by a son, Eric Alexander, and a granddaughter, Jade Smith.

A 1965 graduate of Kenton High School, Dennis proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he graduated from the Police Academy and served as a Hardin County Deputy Sheriff for many years. His distinguished career included roles as a polygraph examiner, detective, and member of the drug task force, as well as serving as a detective for the Hardin County coroner's office.

Dennis was a member of the First Methodist Church in Kenton, the Kenton Moose, the Midwest Shooting Center, and the Ohio Gun Collectors. He enjoyed visiting gun ranges, attending gun shows, and fishing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dennis’s honor to Beauty for Ashes through the First Methodist Church in Kenton.
