of Kenton


Graveside services for Carl E. Cornell will be held at a later date. The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with arrangements.
He died on Friday June 12, 2020 at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 14, 1938 in Kenton to the late George and Lena (Draper) Cornell. On January 21, 1961 he married Carol Warmbrod and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter; Deborah Temple of Kenton, a son; Tod Cornell of FL., two brothers; Timothy (Charene) Cornell of Fl., Gary Cornell of Kenton, four grandchildren; Miranda (Ryan) Ostiguy of Fl., Matthew (Stacy) Temple of Fl., Jeremy (Desiree) Cornell of Anna, Nicholas Temple of Kenton, 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by brothers; Harold and Charles Cornell as well as an infant brother, James.
Gene graduated from Kenton High School in 1956. In May of that same year he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until June of 1960. During his military career, he was a F.A.S.R.O.N in Reykjavik, Iceland and also served as a radioman aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Saratoga. He got to visit 26 countries during his service.
After returning from the military, Gene began a search for a career. He was a painter, factory worker, fireman, special deputy, deputy and worked for over 30 years as an electrician.
He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Church, H.C. Genealogy Society, H.C. Historical Society, Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge, S.U.V.C.W, V.F.W, Moose Lodge and served as their Governor in 1986.
In 1997 he received the Pilgrim Degree from the Loyal Order of Moose. and in 2003 he was awarded the Chamber of Commerce "Community Service Award '' for his co-chairmanship of Bicentennial Planning Committee.
After all of his accomplishments, he was most proud of his family and loved to brag about them.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Evangelical Church, H.C. Genealogy Society of the donors choice.
