A graveside service for Barbara Bradford will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the Northwood Cemetery in Cambridge, Ohio. The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with arrangements.
Barbara passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at the Belle Springs Nursing and Rehab Center in Bellefontaine. She was born on September 1, 1924 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Boyce E. and Gerlienda (Scott) Bradford.
Surviving are a nephew, Robert B. (Deborah) Day, a niece, Christine (Keith) Toresdahl, grand nieces and nephews; Jonathan R. Day, Cora E. (Jess Gabriel) Day, Robert A. Day, Brian A. (Brittney N.) Toresdahl, great-grand nieces and nephews; Sadie, Grace, Leo, Isaac and special friends,Linda and Fred McKinney.
She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law; Carol and Donald Day.
Barbara was a 1942 graduate of Kenton High School. She then attended The Ohio State University, graduating in 1946 with her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Sociology. Barbara taught her entire career and all over the world. She taught for the Department of Defense for military children of Army and Navy personnel. She taught in Seudai, Japan, Argentia, Newfoundland, Roat, Spain, and Ausbach Germany. Most of her teaching career was spent in Ashland, Ohio with the Ashland City Schools from which she retired.
Barbara was extremely involved in various community and educational programs/clubs. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Torch Chapter, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Ashland County Retired Teachers Association, the Senior Citizen Center, a Delta Kappa Gamma-Beta Chapter, a Daughter of the American Revolution, member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Ashland, a life member of The Ohio State University Alumni and a field director for Camp Fire Girls in Cleveland and Chicago. She also volunteered for the Ashland Senior Center as a cashier in their thrift shop as well as a Hospice volunteer.
In her free time when she wasn't traveling the world or volunteering, Barbara enjoyed photography and playing bridge games.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Barbara's honor may be made to any of her membership organizations or the charity of the donor's choice.
