Services for Juanita Smitley will be held at 3:00pm Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Price - McElroy Funeral Home in Mt.Victory with Pastor Kristi Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Hale Cemetery. Friends may call 2 hrs prior to the funeral on Thursday.
She died Friday, August 3, 2018 at her residence. She was born on March 26, 1926 in Troy, Ohio to the late Jesse and Etta (Wood) Macy. On November 22, 1945 she married Melvin L. Smitley and he preceded her in death on October 14, 2010.
Surviving are1 daughter; R. Yvonne Hatfield of Kansas City, Missouri, 3 sons; Rev. Stephen L. (Diana) Smitley of Piqua, Dr. Zane (Sherrie) Smitley of Raleigh N.C., and Craig A. ( Marsha) Smitley of Raleigh N.C., 1 son-in-law; Rodney Gillman of Bellefontaine, 2 sisters; Mary Ellen Jones of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Carol Schmidlapp of Argos, Indiana. 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and her faithful four legged companion Shelby.
She was preceded in death by a daughter; Nancy Gillman, 4 sisters; June Routson, Bernadine Jones, Betty Schweir and Lorna Pearson, and 2 brothers; Emory Macy and Laurel Macy.
Juanita was a homemaker for most of her life, taking care of her children and helping her husband with his pastoral duties. And then at the age of 56 she attended Marion Technical College and received her associates degree in nursing and became an LPN.
She was a member of the Church of Nazarene, most recently in Marysville.
Juanita loved working in God's Lifeline Thrift Store in Mt. Victory, she enjoyed gardening, quilting and making crafts in her free time.
