Emmy Dunbar Obituary

Emmy Lou Dunbar   93

of Kenton

Emmy Lou Dunbar passed away at 7:37 am on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Dublin Methodist Hospital surrounded in love by her 4 children and 2 granddaughters after a brief illness.

She was born in Youngstown, Ohio on May 20, 1924 to John and Alice Easterday. She married Ralph Edwin Dunbar Sr. on May 31, 1943. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1991.

She is survived by 4 children: Ralph Edwin "Ed" (Kim) Dunbar of Niceville, FL, Pam (Dick) Tiffany of Bellefontaine, Alice (Tom) Roof of Dublin, and Becky (Mike) Grimaldi of North Canton. She has 10 grandchildren: Eric Dunbar, Melissa Baker, Amanda Tindall, Scott Tiffany, Toby Tiffany, Chad Roof, Taylor Klinger, Bryan Grimaldi, Lisa Swisher, and Emmie Grimaldi, and 9 great grandchildren. Emmy Lou had a very special neighbor, Corrine McKenna, who helped and checked on her daily.

Before her husband died in 1991, they enjoyed traveling with friends across country in their motor home. They were avid Ohio State Buckeye fans with season tickets to all the home games.

She moved to Kenton in 1995 to help take care of Chad Roof and be closer to family. She became a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, even being named Methodist Woman of the year in 2009. She was a member of Sarah Circle until it got so small, so the remaining members joined the Elizabeth Circle. She also was a member of Culture Club.

Emmy leaves behind not only her family but many friends who loved her like family. Alice was always trying to get Emmy to leave Kenton and move to Dublin to be closer to her but she would say, "I am not leaving my church family." She stayed independent until the very end, even driving at the age of 93. She will be missed by many especially her 3 daughters who considered Emmy their best friend.

Services will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Kenton by the Rev. Jonathan Hanover. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the services.
