Funeral services for Mardell R. Gillfillan will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton with Emmy Beeson officiating. Burial will follow at Wolfcreek Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
She died at 4:36 P.M. on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at The Lima Memorial Hospital. She was born  on December 27, 1929 in Kenton to the late Alfred and Anna Mae (Morison) Brown. On May 13, 1951 she married Paul Gillfillan and he preceded her in death on June 1, 1998.
Surviving are a son; Marvin (Deb) Gillfillan of West Bloomfield, MI, 3 daughters; Debra Kent of Lima, Teresa (Dave) Newland of Mt. Victory, Sandy (Steve) Overly of Mt. Victory, a sister; Marilyn Haag of Ft. Meyers, FLA, 11 grandchildren; Shane Newland, Andrea (Jamey) Richardson, Aaron (Jill) Newland, Eric (Stephanie) Trachsel, Carrie Newland, Ryan Trachsel, Tyler (Mandy) Overly, Dr. Todd (Kelsey) Gillfillan, Craig (Beth) Overly, Kristi Gillfillan, Reese (Grace) Overly, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Lawrence and Vaughn Brown, a sister; Bernadine Kane, and a great-grandson; Gage Overly.
Mardell was a mother and a homemaker.
She loved Hardin County and loved to be involved in the community, and gave back by volunteering her time. She was a 4-H Advisor and volunteered at Hardin County Fair for many years.
She was very active in the Ridgemont School District for over 40 years, including being the Ridgemont Athletic Boosters Treasurer.  
Mardell was a member of the Epworth Methodist Church in Kenton, as well as in the Housewife's Bowling League, The Hardin County Sheep Improvement, the OCCL Mother's Club, and The Kenton Elks, where she was in the Elks Card Club. 
Mardell's true passion was her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved going to any activity her grandchildren were involved with, whether it was sporting events or plays. She will be deply missed by her family and those who knew her.
