Alvia Jill Sharp affectionately known by all who knew her as "Jill" departed this earth for glory at the age of 56, in her home in Springfield, Virginia, surrounded by her loving family and friends on Monday, February 27, 2017.
Jill was born in Vallejo, California on November 18, 1960 to Albert and Gwendolyn Johnson. She was the eldest of two children. As a young girl, Jill lived in various locations to include Spain, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Hawaii. At the age of 9 years old, she and her family settled in Hawaii where she attended Gus Webling Elementary School, Aiea Intermediate School, and Aiea High School. During her college years she remained in the state and attending The University of Hawaii where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. After her college years, she became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Lambda Chi Omega Chapter in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her work with the chapter included raising scholarship funds for college bound students in need.
She began her career as a teacher volunteering at the Easter Seals Foundation School and then went on to a professional teaching career at Makaha Elementary School where she taught for six years. After leaving Makaha Elementary, she took a position at Salt Lake Elementary where she continued her teaching career for another six years. Jill had a deep passionate love for children which resulted in many internal rewards. For instance, she took it upon herself to provide school supplies and clean clothes to children in need. These acts of kindness, unknown to anyone, went on for years. Jill put her teaching career on hold after meeting and marrying the love of her life, USAF Technical Sergeant Harry R. Sharp, III(aka "Skip").
Skip and Jill met at the Hickam Air Force Base singles bible study where they quickly became best friends. Soon thereafter, they became engaged and were later married on October 4, 1997 in Anchorage, Alaska. Out of this union were born two sons, Noah R. Sharp and Jonah A. Sharp. Skip and Jill's faith and love for God was the foundation of their married and family life. Due to military reassignment, she attended and established membership at various churches to include Muldoon Assemblies of God Church Anchorage, Alaska; First Assemblies of God Red Hill Honolulu, Hawaii; Lanakila Baptist Church Waipahu Hawaii; and Burke Community Church Burke Virginia where she was a faithful member of the general assembly and various women's ministries.
Jill is preceded in death by her half brother Gary Johnson of Lake City, Florida, and brother-in-law Robert Wayne Sharp of Kenton, Ohio.
